Germs are lurking in far more places than many of us realize and touching everyday objects or even just shaking hands can make us ill.
Many people mistakenly believe that they pick up most of the germs that make them sick through the air, when someone else sneezes or coughs. In reality, 80% of the germs that cause illness are sored by contact.
These germs spread directly-by shaking hands, for example or indirectly, when we touch an object that has been touched by other people's 'germy' hands.
So where can one find the most germs? The answer is everywhere. From escalator handrails and ATMs to door knobs and even on an armrest of designer sofas in the poshest hotels. In other words, just about every place in the home or outside, has illness-causing germs because germs are a normal part of our world.
